    • Site Setup: Verify that the crane is set up correctly according to the plan (e.g., correct outrigger extension, appropriate ground mats/pads used for ground bearing pressure).

    • Equipment Inspection: Check that all lifting accessories (shackles, slings, chains) identified in the plan are available, free from damage, and have valid color codes/tags.

    • Directing Operations: Supervise the lifting team to ensure they strictly follow the method statement. Ensure only one Slinger/Signaller is signaling the crane at a time.

    Technical Knowledge:

    • BS 7121: Deep understanding of the “Code of Practice for Safe Use of Cranes.”

    • Load Charts: Ability to read crane duty charts to verify the operator is working within the Safe Working Load (SWL).

    • Rigging: Expert knowledge of knot tying, slinging methods, and calculating sling angles on site.
